Ten Job Search Strategies Beyond the Resume
Many people want the resume dead.
But the truth is, the resume is still an essential part of your job search. Job descriptions still tell you where to send or upload it. It's a stimulant for conversations at every level.
But the rest is up to you. Resumes still matter, but they are not your primary tool for the job search anymore. They only jump-start the process. In fact, a resume alone does not give cause for an employer to call you.

American Quarry Company Rejects Mexican President鈥檚 Criticisms and Offer

Vulcan Materials, an American quarry company, has rejected Mexican President Andr茅s Manuel L贸pez Obrador's criticisms, closures, and his offer to purchase their Caribbean coast property for $385 million. The Alabama-based company stated that the offer significantly undervalues the 6,000-acre property near Playa del Carmen, which they have valued at $1.9 billion. Vulcan also refuted claims that their limestone extraction activities have harmed the region鈥檚 underground river and cave systems, pointing to their efforts to protect these resources. Instead, they alleged that unlawful quarries supplying the president鈥檚 Mayan Train project are causing the actual damage.
L贸pez Obrador has proposed converting the company鈥檚 shipping dock into a cruise ship port and turning the property into a natural reserve. Vulcan argues these plans misuse environmental protection claims for commercial tourism and naval operations. Despite L贸pez Obrador鈥檚 ambitions to use the quarried pits for ecotourism, the presence of crocodiles complicates these plans. The president promotes the Mayan Train to distribute Cancun鈥檚 tourism wealth to inland communities, though its feasibility and tourist appeal are in question.
DOJ Sues Live Nation-Ticketmaster, Seeking Break-Up of Concert Giant
The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Live Nation, the owner of Ticketmaster, aiming to dismantle the concert promotion and ticketing giant. US Attorney General Merrick Garland stated, "It is time to break up Live Nation-Ticketmaster," accusing the company of using unlawful, anticompetitive conduct to maintain monopolistic control over the live events industry, harming fans, artists, smaller promoters, and venue operators. The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York and joined by attorneys general from 29 states and Washington DC, follows years of scrutiny over Live Nation's dominance, particularly after the botched ticket sales for Taylor Swift's 2022 Eras tour, which sparked an antitrust investigation.
The DOJ and several states allege that Live Nation has used its monopoly to suppress competition through exclusive agreements, threats of retaliation, and acquiring startups to eliminate competitors. The lawsuit claims Live Nation鈥檚 practices have led to high fees, poor customer service, and reduced competition, making Ticketmaster the default platform for many artists due to Live Nation鈥檚 control over a significant share of performance venues. Jonathan Kanter, Assistant Attorney General of the DOJ鈥檚 Antitrust Division, emphasized the need to restore competition for the benefit of fans and artists. In response, Live Nation has denied the allegations, arguing it has little to do with high ticket prices and pledging to defend against what it calls baseless claims.
