Ford Expands Super Duty Truck Production to Canada
Ford Motor Company announced plans to expand production of its Super Duty trucks to the Oakville Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada, with an investment of about $3 billion. This includes $2.3 billion for the Canadian plant and the remainder for supporting facilities in the U.S. and Canada. The expansion aims to address high demand for these trucks, which are currently manufactured in Ohio and Kentucky. Expected to begin operations in 2026, the Canadian plant will add capacity for approximately 100,000 units annually. The move aligns with CEO Jim Farley's Ford+ growth strategy, focusing on profitable ventures such as the commercial truck business, despite previous plans to convert the Oakville plant into an electric vehicle hub.
United Airlines Lowers Profit Forecast Amid Capacity Cuts
United Airlines forecasted a lower-than-expected profit for the current quarter and announced plans to cut capacity, highlighting the challenges U.S. carriers face despite high travel demand. Following Delta Air Lines' disappointing profit outlook and revenue cuts from American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, United plans to reduce its fourth-quarter domestic capacity by 3% to maintain pricing power. Despite record summer travel numbers, the industry has oversupplied the domestic market, leading to reduced airfares amid rising labor and operational costs. United expects an adjusted profit of $2.75 to $3.25 per share for the quarter ending September 30, below analyst expectations of $3.44 per share.
