Mortgage Rates Inch Higher, But Buyers Stay in the Game

Mortgage rates ticked up this week, with Freddie Mac reporting the average 30-year fixed climbing to 6.34% from 6.3% just a week ago. That’s still below the 52-week average of 6.71% and well above last year’s 6.12%. The 15-year fixed also nudged higher, now sitting at 5.55%. While rising rates usually spook buyers, recent data shows the opposite: pending home sales jumped 4% in August, far outpacing expectations. With the Fed’s latest rate cut and a looming government shutdown hanging over the market, analysts expect mortgage rates to hover in a tight range leaving homebuyers cautiously optimistic and sellers trimming prices to stay competitive.

Wall Street Rides AI Buzz as Shutdown Drama Lingers

Stocks pushed higher today, fueled once again by the AI trade. The Nasdaq gained 0.4%, the S&P 500 edged up 0.2%, and the Dow added 0.3%, building on fresh record highs after the S&P closed above 6,700 for the first time. OpenAI stole headlines with a $500 billion valuation from an employee share sale, cementing its spot as the world’s most valuable startup and sending chipmakers like Nvidia and AMD surging. Meanwhile, investors shrugged off Washington’s shutdown standoff, though a delay of the September jobs report now seems inevitable. With labor data in the dark and the Fed’s next rate cut in focus, Wall Street is leaning on tech optimism to keep momentum alive.

Think in Systems, Not Tasks

If your business feels chaotic, it’s not because you need more time, it’s because you need better systems. Document what you do repeatedly, turn it into a process, and then automate or delegate.
