California Sues ExxonMobil Over Misleading Plastic Recycling Claims

California has filed a lawsuit against ExxonMobil, alleging that the company misled the public for decades about the feasibility of plastic recycling. According to the lawsuit, ExxonMobil was aware that recycling plastic was neither economically viable nor effective at reducing waste, yet it promoted the practice to encourage plastic consumption. As a result, California has been left to manage billions of pounds of plastic waste, costing the state over $1 billion annually. The lawsuit seeks to establish an Exxon-funded cleanup initiative and launch a public education campaign to address the ongoing plastic pollution crisis. This legal action highlights the state’s effort to hold the plastics and fossil fuel industries accountable for their environmental impact.

Stellantis Begins CEO Search Amid Struggles in U.S. Market

Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep and Ram, has confirmed it is searching for a successor to CEO Carlos Tavares as part of a routine leadership transition. Tavares has faced mounting criticism from U.S. dealers and the United Auto Workers union after a poor first-half financial performance and rising vehicle inventories. While the company stated that Tavares’ contract runs until 2026, industry experts believe the board may be preparing for his exit.
