TikTok Gets a U.S. Makeover (Without Going Dark)

After years of will-they-won’t-they drama, TikTok is staying live in the U.S. under a newly approved deal that shifts control of its American operations to a U.S.-led investor group backed by Donald Trump. The new entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, puts national security guardrails front and center, U.S. data stored on Oracle’s servers, tighter oversight of the algorithm, and a mostly American board while ByteDance keeps a minority stake under 20%. The result? Creators and businesses avoid a shutdown, Washington gets its safeguards, and TikTok keeps doing what it does best, fueling the internet’s attention economy, just with a lot more adults in the room.

Tesla Makes Autopilot Optional and Bets Bigger on Subscriptions

Tesla is quietly changing the rules of the road by removing its basic Autopilot features as a standard option on new Model 3 and Model Y purchases in the U.S., nudging buyers toward its Full Self-Driving subscription instead. Entry-level models now come with little more than adaptive cruise control, while lane-centering and auto-steer live behind the FSD paywall, a move that aligns with Elon Musk’s push toward a $99 per month software model that could get pricier over time. The shift comes as Tesla leans harder into robotaxis and future autonomy, even as rivals like Waymo under Alphabet remain further ahead in fully driverless deployments, making this less about features today and more about where Tesla wants its revenue to come from tomorrow.

Tip of the Day

Optimize for decision speed, not perfection

Most growth stalls because decisions sit too long, not because they’re wrong. Set a default rule for low-risk choices like “decide within 24 hours” and move on. Momentum compounds faster than polish.
