Meta Fined €797.72 Million by European Commission Over Antitrust Violation

The European Commission has fined Meta €797.72 million ($840.24 million) for antitrust violations related to its Facebook Marketplace, accusing the company of unfairly tying the service to its dominant social network and imposing unfair conditions on competing online classified ad providers. Meta, which launched Marketplace in 2016, plans to appeal the decision but will comply with the ruling while working on a solution to address the issues raised, arguing that Facebook users can choose whether or not to engage with Marketplace and that no harm to competitors has been proven.
