Google's Plan to "Crush" Rivals Spotlighted in Antitrust Trial
During Google's ongoing antitrust trial, evidence presented by U.S. prosecutors revealed that a company executive in 2009 aimed to "crush" rival advertising networks. This statement supports the U.S. Department of Justice's claim that Google sought to monopolize markets for publisher ad servers and advertiser ad networks, alongside dominating ad exchanges. Notes from David Rosenblatt, then president of Google’s display advertising, highlighted the company’s strategy to leverage its ownership of ad tech across all areas of the market, comparing Google’s role to that of both a stock exchange and a market maker. Google denies the charges, pointing to strong competition from other digital advertising companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta. If found guilty, the court may order Google to sell off key ad tech assets.
Campbell Drops the Soup
Campbell Soup Co. announced plans to change its name to Campbell's Co., signaling a shift away from its traditional focus on canned soups. The company, which also owns brands like Prego and Goldfish, recently expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Sovos Brands, maker of Rao’s pasta sauces. CEO Mark Clouse explained that the "subtle yet important change" will retain Campbell’s legacy while better representing its diverse offerings. The name change is still pending shareholder approval in November, but experts believe it won't affect consumer perception and may support the company's growth ambitions.
