Wiz has turned down a $23 billion acquisition offer from Google, opting instead to focus on its initial public offering (IPO) and reaching $1 billion in annual recurring revenue. Co-founder Assaf Rappaport cited antitrust and investor concerns as factors influencing the decision, emphasizing that the company remains committed to its growth targets set before acquisition talks began. Despite the missed opportunity for a significant valuation boost, Wiz plans to continue expanding its cloud security products and pursue its long-term objectives. The move reflects a broader trend of tech startups choosing IPOs over large acquisition deals amid regulatory and market uncertainties.
Google Reverses Course on Third-Party Cookies, Extending Timeline
Google has decided to halt its plans to phase out third-party cookies in Chrome, a move that comes after several delays and growing skepticism among marketers. This reversal allows Google more time to address concerns raised by UK regulators about the Privacy Sandbox, its proposed cookie alternative, including issues related to anticompetitive practices and inadequate consumer privacy disclosures. Although the third-party cookie deprecation is delayed, Google will continue to develop and invest in the Privacy Sandbox APIs. Advertisers should focus on testing alternative targeting strategies, refining data acquisition plans, and leveraging direct publisher relationships to navigate the evolving landscape.
