Chase Rolls the Dice on the Luxe Life

JPMorgan Chase is cranking up the glam and the price tag on its Sapphire Reserve card, betting that well-heeled customers will still bite even as the annual fee leaps 45% to $795. To soften the sticker shock, the bank is dangling over $2,700 in annual perks, including a splashy new travel redemption program, $500 hotel credits, $300 dining bonuses, and even free Apple TV+ and Apple Music. High rollers who spend $75,000 or more unlock elite travel statuses and other exclusives. There’s even a new business version aimed at rivaling AmEx’s Platinum line. But not everyone’s reaching for the champagne just yet as experts warn the steep fee could spook more budget-conscious users. Still, JPMorgan seems more interested in creating a luxury “spend-to-play” ecosystem than in chasing the masses. It's a high-stakes game of perks-for-loyalty, and only time (and card swipes) will tell who’s in for the long haul.
Streaming: Now Officially the Main Character

Streaming just stole the TV crown. For the first time ever, it outpaced both cable and broadcast combined, snagging 44.8% of all TV viewership in May, according to Nielsen’s latest report. That’s not just a win, it’s a takeover. Legacy TV, clinging to sports and news like a security blanket, now trails behind as YouTube, Netflix, and free platforms like Pluto TV and Tubi surge ahead. YouTube alone grabbed a whopping 12.5% share — more than any other individual streamer — proving cat videos and DIY hacks aren’t just distractions, they’re prime-time contenders. Traditional media is scrambling to catch up, launching their own streamers or cozying up to YouTube like it’s prom night. While the NFL may temporarily slow the streaming stampede, Nielsen’s betting the shift is here to stay. Welcome to the new channel-surfing era where the remote is digital, and “tune in” means opening an app.
