Nissan is scaling up its job cuts to 20,000 by 2027 as part of its “Re-Nissan” recovery plan, citing rising costs and global uncertainty. The automaker, which reported a $4.5 billion loss in FY 2024, is also reducing its manufacturing footprint from 17 to 10 plants and aims to save nearly $3.4 billion in the process. After a failed merger with Honda and ongoing trade tensions with the U.S., the company is shifting its focus to U.S.-built vehicles and EV growth in China. Leadership shakeups, a gloomy FY 2025 outlook, and tariff anxiety add even more turbulence to Nissan’s road ahead making this more than just a cost-cutting move; it’s a survival pivot.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called AI “essential infrastructure,” aligning the project with the kingdom’s long-term tech ambitions.
