Fanatics Launches Nationwide Prediction Market Platform

Fanatics is expanding its footprint beyond merchandise and gaming with the launch of Fanatics Markets, a new prediction platform rolling out this week across 24 states. The platform will let users trade on outcomes in sports, finance, economics, and politics, with additional categories like crypto, stocks, tech, and entertainment coming early next year. Fanatics positions the move as a natural extension of its ecosystem, offering a regulated way for fans to engage with major cultural moments while potentially earning from their predictions. The phased rollout begins Wednesday in 10 states, continues Thursday in nine more, and concludes Friday with major markets including California, Texas, Florida, and Washington. With competitors like DraftKings and FanDuel also entering the space, Fanatics is stepping into a rapidly growing market fueled by the rise of legalized online betting.

Record Holiday Shopping Turnout Driven by Deep Discounts

Deep discounts drew an estimated 202.9 million U.S. consumers to shop between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, marking the highest five-day turnout since the National Retail Federation began tracking the figure in 2017. The total surpassed both last year’s 197 million shoppers and the NRF’s projection of 186.9 million, signaling a strong start to the holiday season despite mixed economic signals. NRF leaders described the period as the emotional kickoff to holiday spending, noting that families often prioritize gifts and seasonal purchases even while cutting back elsewhere. Both in-store and online traffic increased, with 129.5 million shopping in stores and 134.9 million buying online, while Adobe reported $44.2 billion in online spending over the five days, up 7.7% year over year. Clothing, toys, books, and gift cards topped shoppers' lists, and retailers expect holiday spending to reach a record $1.1 to $1.2 trillion by year-end.
